Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a structured psychological intervention conducted within a state of focused attention.

In this state, external distraction reduces and internal awareness increases. This allows us to work directly with subconscious patterns that influence behaviour, emotion, and perception.

You are not asleep.
You are not unconscious.
You remain aware, responsive, and in control.

Most clients describe the experience as deeply relaxed yet mentally clear.

Is hypnotherapy safe?

Yes. When delivered by a qualified practitioner, hypnotherapy is a safe and non invasive modality.

In certain circumstances, including epilepsy or active psychotic disorders, medical clearance may be required prior to commencing treatment to ensure suitability.

Appropriate assessment is always conducted before beginning.

Can I be made to do something against my will?

No.

Clinical hypnotherapy is entirely different from stage hypnosis.

You remain aware, able to speak, and capable of ending the session at any time. No suggestion can override your values or intentions.

Change occurs through collaboration, not control.

What if I have tried therapy before?

Many clients who seek hypnotherapy have previously engaged in counselling or psychology.

Traditional therapy often focuses on insight and cognitive understanding. While valuable, insight alone does not always shift automatic emotional or behavioural responses.

Hypnotherapy works at the level where patterns are conditioned and maintained.

For clients who feel they understand the issue yet continue to react in the same way, this approach can provide a more direct pathway to change.

How long is each session?

Standard sessions are approximately 60 minutes.

Quit smoking programs include a 30 minute pre consultation and a structured session of up to 90 minutes.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions depends on the complexity and duration of the issue.

Some clients experience meaningful improvement within one to three sessions. More entrenched or trauma related presentations may require additional work.

Clear guidance is provided following assessment.

Will I be awake during hypnosis?

Yes.

You remain conscious and aware throughout the process. Most clients describe the experience as similar to the state just before sleep, relaxed but mentally present.

You will hear everything that is said and can respond at any time.

Is hypnotherapy covered by Medicare or private health?

Hypnotherapy is not covered under Medicare.

Some private health funds may offer rebates under extras cover for certain modalities. As policies vary, you should check directly with your provider to confirm eligibility and rebate details prior to booking.

Payment is required at the time of your session.

What should I know before booking?

Your initial 30 minute consultation is complimentary.

This allows us to clarify your goals, assess suitability, and ensure therapeutic rapport.

There is no obligation to proceed.
